Mission Statement
St. Augustine Preparatory School, owned and sponsored by the Augustinians of the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova, strives to form young men according to the ideals inherent in the Catholic and Augustinian educational tradition, as well as Cardinal Newman’s ideal of the Christian Gentleman. Through a total, integrated, interdisciplinary education directed to the intellectual, emotional, spiritual, physical and moral development of its students, the School’s educational focus is on college-bound, secondary school young male adults. St. Augustine Preparatory School is conscious of the mandate of Jesus and the mission of the Church to proclaim by word and work the Good News revealed in the Scriptures and reflected in its rich Judeo-Christian heritage.
A Catholic and Augustinian education explores and celebrates, through scientific study and artistic expression, the world God has entrusted to our responsible stewardship. A Catholic and Augustinian education searches for God not only in the complexity of creation but also in the depths of our own humanity. Genuine self-knowledge and an appreciation of interiority are essential in our formation of the youth entrusted to us.
A Christian Gentleman rejoices in the truth wherever it may be found. Therefore, St. Augustine Preparatory School recognizes its responsibility to familiarize students with the great literary and artistic works, both religious and secular, that have shaped the lives of our ancestors and the course of our history. Our teachers train students, by methods of reasoning, discussion and evaluation, to discern in these works what is valid and effective, and therefore help students to make moral choices informed by a sound conscience. Through guided and gradual opportunities for creativity and service, our students are led to exercise independence, initiative and responsibility. Our students must become good stewards of God’s creation.
Since only the disciplined mind is free, a Catholic and Augustinian education trains the will as well as the intellect, creating an atmosphere of loving discipline which instills security and trust, respect for others and accountability for oneself, leading to self-discipline and personal autonomy. St. Augustine Preparatory School advocates and promotes a familial, personalistic and collaborative atmosphere of learning with strong bonds forged between home, school, church and civic communities. Thus, through encouragement and example, challenge and correction, personal interest and loving concern, our students will grow in wisdom, age and grace, and look back upon their years at St. Augustine Preparatory School with gratitude and pride.
